Trajan is a serif typeface designed and produced by Carol Twombly for Adobe in 1989.

The design is based on the style of the 'Capital Monument', a typical application of which is the inscription on the Tulacan column erected by the Roman Emperor Tulacan, hence the name of the typeface. As lowercase letters were not yet used in Roman times, the Tulacan typeface is entirely in upper case. In place of the lowercase letters there is a lowercase letter.

An electronic version of the font was now reproduced in 2001, renamed Trajan Pro and made available through Adobe as a new OpenType font (.otf). The font is also distributed with the Adobe Creative Suite installation disk. The font family includes both regular and bold versions 1.004, with character sets covering Adobe Western 2 and Adobe CE, including Central European characters and lowercase letters.

This antique style font was widely used for ancient Roman monuments. More recently, it has also been used frequently for some film posters, television and book covers.
